ROCKLAND, Maine—Passion of place is what the Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Show is all about. The best of Maine from across the creative spectrum will be gathered together at the 10th annual show on the Rockland waterfront, August 10-12, 2012. Beautiful boats, unique handcrafted products, and an eclectic mix of high-quality goods for life on the water and the shore will again be on display at Maine’s only in-the-water boat show and coastal lifestyle event.

“I’ve always thought of the show as a tremendous party where the most creative folks on the coast share what they do with customers and other exhibitors.

Finding Your Local Pet Food Pantry

Finding Your Local Pet Food Pantry

I want to start off my blog today with a pet recipe, then move onto programs in your community that are in place to help you if you are in the position of not having enough money to feed and care for your pet. These programs are wonderful!

But first, a yummy pet recipe!
Since some of us just had a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day dinner of corned beef or ham here is a recipe for your pets! I bet they would like a little bit of the leftovers too! This recipe is corned beef and potato cakes. I just want to remind everyone that if you used any garlic or onions in the mashed potatoes it can be toxic for you pet. So, please make sure there is none in your mix.

Living With Your Pets

 Living With Your Pets

For all of you that have pets at home you know as well as I do that they have a mind of their own. Our pets hold a special place in our hearts and lives, they are part of the family. But sometimes our beloved pets can act naughty, just like a child would.. It can be something as simple as opening up a cupboard door to more destructive behavior as tearing up the furniture. I had a beloved dog for 17 years, she was everything to me. For the most part she was so well behaved until I came back from a vacation. The night I got home she got on my bed and completely tore the comforter apart, ripping a hole in it that couldn't be repaired. She had never done anything like that before. I actually called my vet and asked why the change in her. The vet told me it was just her way of expressing how upset she was probably because I was gone for a extended period of time. My point is, no matter what, pets are trying to express what they are thinking and feeling in their own way.

Give a Treat to Your Pets

Give a Treat to Your Pets

I think that every now and then we need to take the time and spoil the pets that we all care about and love everyday in our homes. I have a orange Maine coon cat named Kit Kat who thinks he is the king of the house, trust me, he is. I always find time to spoil him. Every morning he greets me with meows when I wake up so I will give him his daily treats. I think I am the one who is trained! So today I want to share with everyone a recipe for some healthy and natural doggie cookies.

So, you are going to need the following ingredients:

1 cup flour, 3/4 cup whole wheat flour, 1/2 cup packed brown sugar, 1/2 cup ground peanuts, 1/4 cup sesame seeds, 2 tablespoons toasted wheat germ, 3/4 cup butter, 1 egg, 2 to 3 tablespoons water, 1 ounce vanilla (optional), 1/2 teaspoon shortening (optional).

Heat the oven to 325 degrees. In a large bowl mix together both flours, peanuts, sesame seeds, wheat germ, & brown sugar.
