Ellsworth house fire ruled suspicious | News
ELLSWORTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- State police say a man whose house was destroyed by fire on Thursday in Ellsworth, took his own life and now investigators are saying the fire is suspicious.
Investigators say Dayton Arey was found dead Friday morning. He and his family were staying at a friend's home in Lamoine after being displaced by the fire.
More than 50 firefighters responded to the home on Stackpole Way Thursday afternoon to find it fully engulfed in flames. Responders say Arey told them he called 911 after he and his family came home to find the house on fire.
According to police, Arey committed suicide at his friend's home. The Fire Marshall's Office then deemed the fire suspicious. It is now still investigating to determine a cause.
