Jackson Lab research finds early glaucoma detection

BAR HARBOR, Maine (AP) -- Researchers at Maine's Jackson Laboratory say they've designed a technique that detects early stages of glaucoma in mice, enabling them to successfully block the disease.

The research team analyzed genomic data from mice that typically develop glaucoma. Using this data, they identified many changes that occur before detectable damage from glaucoma occurs.

Jackson Laboratory professor Simon W. M. John led the research, which was reported in the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

Glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness, affects more than 4 million Americans. The best-known symptom of glaucoma is elevated pressure inside the eye. But blinding damage to retinal ganglion cells and the optic nerve can occur in patients with normal eye pressure. Earlier detection and treatment could have a powerful impact on preventing blindness due to glaucoma, researchers say.

Crock Pot Recipes, with the Easiest Recipe Ever!

Crock Pot Recipes, with the Easiest Recipe Ever!

Good day everyone!

It's that time of week again for my crock pot creations! I really hope you all enjoyed and had a chance to try last weeks recipes. This week I am going to show you how to make pork roast, barbecued ribs and orange chicken in the crock pot. One of the best parts of using the crock pot to me is the lack of dishes to wash after supper! Love that!

Okay, let's get started with yummy orange chicken.

You will need: 1 whole chicken or use 7-8 boneless chicken thighs, it's your choice, 3 tbsp flour, 1/3 cup orange marmalade, 1/3 cup barbecue sauce, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp fresh grated ginger

First, I would use the largest crock pot you have for this meal. Sprinkle the flour over the chicken and place the chicken in the crock pot. Now, in a large bowl mix all of the other ingredients together.

Seeking Much Needed Road Work in Birch Harbor & Prospect Harbor

Seeking Much Needed Road Work in Birch Harbor & Prospect Harbor

Hi everyone,

Today's topic is Route 186 from Birch Harbor to Prospect Harbor and the poor road conditions. One of the worst parts of the road is the section from the Prospect Point Road to the Winter Harbor town line. This road is horrible! The only way you can drive over it and not break a rod or bottom out your car is to have a speed of 15MPH or less! The road has giant pot holes and the entire road has bowed in the middle causing any vehicle that is low to the ground to scrape the underneath. On the sides of the road it is torn up so bad it is almost impossible to pull of the road in this area.
